TEMPESTing the World

To what degree do we need to "TEMPEST" the world from outside emanations?

Some maintain that our minds should be protected to filter out emanations containing non-Jewish content.

Is this really possible in golus? How can we live in a country and totally cut ourselves off from our surroundings?

Others maintain that our filter should be minimal.

If so, how do we draw the line?

Some maintain that the emanations should not be filtered and our minds should be allowed to receive everything.

Doesn't this just lead to stimuli overdose?

I don't have an answer. I am still searching for one.

I think the answer is different for each of us. Some need the outisde emanations to be better jews and for others it prsents a danger and should be avoided. There is no one way and you raised a most important question especially in regard to raisng children.

Good question. I will have to think about it.

A quote:

"It's good to be openminded. Just don't be too openminded, or your brains might fall out."

Just had to write that.

Seriously, though. Your question about the first opinion is "Is this possible." Is it possible to filter out everything? No. But is it possible to filter out everything that it is possible to filter out? Yes.

So the answer is, yes, tempest as much as you'd like.

Anyone want to disagree? I'm quite open to defending this one...
