Earning Your Bread At The Risk Of Your Life

"Man's origin is dust and his end is unto dust. He earns his bread at the risk of his life..." - from the Machzor

Is the person who goes to work each day the "real" you or are you just method acting for your paycheck, pretending that you care about your work?

I read and copy edit romance novels for a living. The subject matter doesn't excite me in any way, shape or form, but helping to better an author's words, helping to make the story seamless from problems, does. Helping to present an author in a positive way, thus representing our company in a postive way, is what counts for me!
It is a job in which I can exercise my mind, my accumulated knowledge, my resourcefulness in fact-checking...but in essence it is just a job.

How sad that would be, I think. Because if one is just 'method acting' then aren't they just living a lie? How does that bring honor and glory to G-d?

Torontopearl finds parts of what she does to bring her enjoyment even though she may not want to be there. I think that is commendable.

But if one is just 'pretending' then you are not only cheating your employer, but also, yourself, and like I've already alluded to, G-d.

Necessity may require a person to be in a particular job, and it may not be your favorite, but I do think one should learn to be content in all situations, and give it their 'all.' At least until G-d moves you to a different job. ~C

Since I work in sales it is very easy for me to measure my production and reward. Most of the time I feel very good about being here.
