Hirshel Tzig: I meant more specifically than just Anapol. But thank you for your kindness.

The Ohel is located in the middle of a field in the midst of a run-down Jewish cemetery. Driving through the tiny shtetl of Anapol, one turns off the main road and drives down a tiny alley to this field. It is really out in the middle of no where.

Thank you, ASJ, for your answer here and in the previous post. I am endlessly fascinated by the surroundings (or sometimes lack thereof)of the kivrei tzaddikim...

What's the connection between the Maggid of Mezeritch and R' Leib Soros?

mcaryeh: Of course having the kever of Nachum ish Gamzu in middle of a residential neighborhood in Tzfat is a little surreal.

Soccer Dad: The Encyclopedia of Hasidism (pages 278-279) says, "The Maggid of Mezeritch received a visit from Leib, who boasted that his purpose for visiting the Maggid was in order to watch him don and remove his slippers. The Maggid gave him a letter commending Leib as a man of unsullied character and asking all to support him in his collection for the poor and pious."

R' Leib Soros is my great, great, great, great, great, great (?) grandfather. Now I recall something else I saw. I remember seeing something about the letter in another Sefer (I think it was called Gedolei Doros.) so thank you for that info.

Soccer Dad: You got some real yichus!

By the way, do you happen to know where his kever is and what his yahrzeit is?

There should have only been 4 "greats" not 6.

I think that my brother knows the Yahrzeit. He davens in a Shul in Tel Aviv that rarely says Tachanun because of Yahrzeits of Tzaddikim. And one day they didn't say Tachanun due to R' Leib Soros's Yahrzeit.

A (third or fourth) cousin in Israel did a report on him for her high school class. I really have to get my hands on it as it contains a picture of his kever.

I don't know if it's in Anapol, but I know that Anapol is somewhere important in my mother's family.

I was a bit dismayed by the notion that Chassidim placed the misnagdim in a counter-cherem. Misnagdim helped the Chassidim stay frum. It is a shame that Chassidim like Lubavitch have insulated themselves from cesnure. This whole problem may have never happened.

Anonymous: Thank you for your comment. How does it relate to the pictures above?

26 years ago I made Aliya. The only other Mazal/Mazel in the Jerusalem phone book, was a religious family that had recently come from Russia. After 26 years of being shy, I finally contacted them. All of the details seem to indicate that we are indeed related. Thus, I finally learned from the the origin of our family name.

It isn't "luck" but rather the initials of Meshulam Zusia ben Laizer - Reb Zusha! They have a detailed Yichus.

Unfortunately, my father lost his father quite young, and was never interested. His younger brother remembered that there was something that they were all very proud of, but couldn't remember exactly who or what.
