Simply Tsfat In Concert

On Monday night, I had the privilege of seeing Simply Tsfat in concert. They were absolutely fantastic, and if you ever get a chance to see them live, I highly recommend it.

At the concert I bought a copy of their newly-released CD Never Give Up! and have been enjoying listening to The Baal Shem Tov's Niggun. The liner notes for this track state, "We were told that this niggun goes all the way back to the circle of the founder of the Chassidic movement, Rebbe Israel Baal Shem Tov. It is sung in Breslev Tsfat for the second part of L'Cha Dodi song Erev Shabbat."

It is indeed a lovely niggun, & one that I'm not familiar with - I don't recall having heard it before.
I've seen Simply Tzfat both in concert in Tzfat, and at weddings in Yerushalayim. They are great!
Of course, us "Yerushalmis" are a bit spoiled - for example, R. Moshe Beininstock, THE Breslov Baal Tefilla par excellance [he davens Musaf in Uman!], is the usual Baal Tefilla in the Breslov shul which my son & I often attend, for Friday night and/or Shalosh Seudos [my son more often than I]. Oy, what you guys are missing!!!! Wish I could transport you here... :)

Yitz: I was expecting you to fill me in on the details of this niggun. I am surprised you have never heard it before (neither have I).

G-d willing, one day I will have to come hear R' Beininstock. It sounds wonderful.

I heard R' Moshe daven musaf on Shabbos Rosh Chodesh Av in the Old City. Gevald, what a davening. And R' Eliyahu of Simply Tsfat is a wonderful man - his kids are absolutely a joy to hang out with!

Any Simply Tzfat concerts coming up? I just read your blog while looking for some Rebbe Nachman stories and you have reminded me that I have been wanting to upload my ST CD to my iPod, so thanks! Shavuah tov...and please pass along any concert info if you should have it!
