"Buhh Buh" - Lil' Tzaddik's Older Sister

Last night I asked my two year-old son, "What is my name?"

"Daddy"

"What is her name?" (pointing to my wife)

"Mommy"

"What is the baby's name?"

[Baby's name said clearly]

"What is your sister's name?"

"Buhh buh" (said as if the words were spilling out of his mouth with no effort)

I have been racking my brains over this for the past month because I have heard him say his older sister's name clearly on a few occasions. Although he has said her name in her presence a few weeks ago, now my son only says his sister's name when she is not in the room.

They certainly fight like most siblings do, however, they often play very nicely together and my older daughter sometimes sits with him to look at books together.

So, why the "Buhh buh"?

What is the message he is trying to communicate? Is it simply a form of passive aggressiveness?

Baleboosteh: Thank you for the compliments. My daughter refer's to her curls as "boings"; they serve as a barometer and get curlier with high humidity.

Sounds like he is definitely making some deep assessments in his little neshoma, that will carry on thru his years. Do you have a Safta or Bubbie that visits and holds the baby? Could it be that he sees his sister doing the the same thing with the baby?

Maybe with this new arrival in the family, he is noticing a different aspect of his sister's nature (such as nurturer or protector toward the baby) that he is incorporating into his emotional associations? Before this, he was the baby, so to speak, to his sister. This could be announcing a newfound association.

What do you think about this?

Interesting. My parents are actually visiting right now.

His sister has revealed more of her sensitive side since the birth of the baby. Lil' Tzaddik still gets the brunt of her wrath.

Creating words is a sign of imagination. My 4 year old still instists that she's speaking "hebrew" when she repeats words that only she understands. Cute post.

Are you asking him to say it with a mouth full of ice cream?
