I remember a stor about Reb Chaim of Brisk. A guest came to eat at the rov's table and spilled some wine, which stained the tablecloth. Reb Chaim tilted the table and said, "The leg of this table is broken. You can't help but having things spill." This way, the guest's feelings were not hurt.

And then (l'chovod Purim), there's the story about the Chassidisher yungerman who wanted to impress his friend. He told him, "Ich feif oif mein veib! In mein hoiz, bin ich der balabos."

Then, one day, the friend happened to visit the yungerman's house, and he saw how the wife grabbed her rolling pin and chased the yungerman around the house, until he had to hide under the dining room table, in fright.

The yungerman beckoned to his friend and whispered to him, "Ober unter'n tish, bin ich balabos."
